Following a 2-1 loss in the opening game, the Army West Point Softball team bounced back to claim a 5-0 shutout victory against Marist in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday at Gartland Athletic Field. Renee Poirier got the starting nod in the first game against the Red Foxes (13-19) and went 6.1 innings. She gave up just four hits and struck out five while not allowing an earned run. Courtney Springman started the second tilt and fanned six over five shutout innings en route to the win. Carrie Reilly and Emily Ballesteros led the charge at the plate for Army (13-20). Reilly went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI, while Ballesters batted 4-for-8 in the two games combined. Kristen McPeek also contributed at the dish, picking up a double in each of the contests. Taylor Livingston made her first collegiate start at shortstop. Poirier made her fifth start of the season. She passed Colleen McCabe '91 for seventh in all-time strikeouts with 182. McPeek tallied her 20th career double and fourth of the season. Reilly roped her fifth career double and fourth of the season. She recorded her seventh multi-hit game this season. Ballesteros notched her fourth multi-hit outing this year.
