The International Affairs Forum within the Department of Social Sciences hosted Ambassador Joseph W. Westphal, former U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and 30th Undersecretary of the Army. Ambassador Westphal engaged with cadets and faculty during three separate events: a lecture to a group of approximately 80 cadets, a small group discussion with cadets and faculty, and a classroom discussion with a section of International Relations. These events focused on Saudi strategic interests in the Middle East, the diversification of the Saudi economy, the effects of Saudi identity on its domestic and international behavior, and the role of the Foreign Service in the development and execution of U.S. foreign policy. In addition, Ambassador Westphal’s wife, Linda, held a separate small group discussion with cadets and faculty, focused on the evolving role of women in Saudi Arabia.
