German Section Hosts Baron Henning-Hubertus von Steuben

The DFL German Section hosted a visit with Baron Henning-Hubertus von Steuben, an ancestor of famous Revolutionary War General Baron von Steuben of Prussia. Baron von Steuben and his contingent met DFL’s German faculty for lunch in the West Point Club where they presented to the Academy several mementos of Baron von Steuben’s ancestors, which highlighted their contribution to American history. Faculty from DFL’s German Section also escorted Baron von Steuben during his tour of West Point. The USMA German Forum marched in the German-American Steuben Parade in New York City (NYC) on 17 September. The USMA cadets, led by CIC CDT Barron Lehleitner ’17, marched alongside German and Austrian exchange officers and cadets during the parade. For a number of years, the USMA German Forum has been a leading element in the Steuben Parade and this event is key to the German Forum’s long-standing relationship with the Steuben Society of NYC. Following the parade, the USMA contingent attended the German-American Oktoberfest in Central Park and enjoyed the afternoon and the festivities with the NYC community.
