On 25 Oct., the Army West Point Judo Team competed at the Big Apple Judo Tournament in New York City. The Big Apple Judo Tournament is known as the New York State Championships; competitors from all around the World to include countries like Poland, Russia and France come to compete. Both the Advanced and Novice members of the Army West Point Judo Team had the opportunity to compete. Seven cadets were awarded first place medals, ten cadets were awarded second place medals, and four cadets were awarded third place medals. Earning second place in the Advanced Division were CDTs Ishmael McGinty, Aspen Doran, Mason Kumashiro, and Pearl Brooks. As for the Novice Division, CDTs Megan Kinsey, Elaine Haggard, and Nicholas Chinea earned first place; CDTs Rikki Fearon and Aspen Doran took second place; CDT Hannah Meadows took home third place. The tournament also included an Open Weight Division, which competitors must place in the Advanced Division first in order to compete in the Open Division. The Army West Point Judo team had two athletes compete in the Open Division, CDTs Mason Kumashiro and Ishmael McGinty; both cadets fought tirelessly and CDT Kumashiro made it all the way to the semi-finals. The team’s efforts are indicative of the drive and dedication of all the members of the Army West Point Judo Team.
