The inaugural “Army Leader” West Point Negotiation Project Workshop was held at the U.S. Military Academy from June 17-19. Sixty Army, Air Force and Brazilian leaders joined efforts to learn and discuss “Principled Negotiation” through a highly interactive and experiential workshop. This cohort of leaders represented Fort Campbell, Fort Bragg, Fort Drum, the Army War College, the National Training Center, USMA and the Brazilian Army. Participants included leaders from the rank of sergeant through colonel.
The “Army Leader” West Point Negotiation Project Workshop was crafted in response to requests from Army units to BS&L (WPNP) to provide negotiation skills training. This workshop encouraged leaders to challenge their own assumptions about negotiations, learn the seven-element principled negotiation framework, develop a systematic measure of success, apply principled skills to real-world scenarios, and develop additional problem-solving strategies for future negotiations.
