WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Fullback Matt Giachinta and linebacker Jeremy Timpf have been elected team captains for the 2015 Army West Point football season, second-year head coach Jeff Monken announced today. Giachinta and Timpf were chosen in a vote of teammates following the conclusion of spring practice.
A six-foot, one, 223-pound fullback from Cold Spring, N.Y., Giachinta has rushed for 270 yards and three touchdowns in his career. Last year, he collected 152 yards and a touchdown. He has also returned four kickoffs and hauled in two passes. He will be a senior next fall.
Timpf, a 6-1,225-pound inside linebacker from Tucson, Ariz., led the team with 117 tackles in 2014, his first season as a starter. He also collected 14.5 tackles for losses of 35 yards, three pass breakups, three interceptions, forced a fumble and recovered another fumble. Timpf will be a junior in the fall and is the first captain not to be a member of the senior class since Stephen Anderson in 2009. Read More
