Army West Point plebe Shelby Piccinic received Second Team All-Patriot League honors following a strong finish at the Patriot League Championships at Bucknell on Saturday. Piccinic continued her strong rookie season, leading Women's Cross Country with an 13th-place finish at 22:21.9.
"For Shelby to come in as a freshman and have an immediate impact at that meet, it's significant," head coach Mike Smith said. "She has done a great job throughout the school year in managing everything she has to manage, and she ran well. She competed the way we expected her to and her performance is an indication of, not only her talent and ability, but her determination to do her best. So, I'm very proud of her and very happy that she could experience that level of success at such an early age."
Her plebe campaign has been filled with accolades, as she collected two Patriot League Rookie of the Week awards. Piccinic won in her collegiate debut, leading the field in an impressive race at the Maine Dual. She was the team's top finisher against service-rival Navy, finishing third with a time of 26:06.2.
