Cadets Attend the Grace Hopper ConferenceEight cadets from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) attended the 2018 Grace Hopper Conference in Houston, TX. The cadets who attended the conference were: Taylor Bradley, Rachelle David, Chloe Dewees, Mary Pollin, Samantha Rankin, Ashley Rivera, Amanda Roper, and Haley Steele. Dr. Suzanne J. Matthews helped organize the event but could not attend this year owing to a conflict with another conference. Dr. Matthews is also one the co-chairs of the GHC Scholarship Committee, which oversaw the review of nearly 4,000 applications with 500+ reviewers. This year, the committee was able to award over 800 scholarships. This is Dr. Matthews' fifth year as co-chair of the Scholarship committee.

The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing is the largest consortium of women in computing in the world. It is named in honor of Admiral Grace Murray Hopper, inventor of the compiler, and an early pioneer in many aspects of computing. This year’s conference had over 20,000 attendees, the largest conference yet. Students at the conference get to learn about the newest technologies, and attend talks given by famous academics, researchers and CEOs.
