Ten cadets of the USMA Model United Nations team traveled to Boston, Massachusetts to participate in the Boston Area Regional Model UN Conference (BarMUN) hosted by Columbia University. This marked the first time that the West Point Model UN team had participated in BarMUN. There were many universities in attendance. Cadets participated in several interesting debate topics. Through participation in this conference, the attending cadets had a unique opportunity to hear from the local charity and non-profit leaders in the Boston community, and to build relationships with the nation's future civilian leadership in social events hosted by the conference. The conference ended with the Model UN team being awarded the second highest-ranking award, Outstanding Small Delegation for their overall success as a team at the conference. This delegation award reflects great effort on the part of the Model UN team given that it was their first time ever competing at this conference, overcoming challenges in research, debate styles, and logistics. The following cadets were individually recognized for their outstanding performances: John Govern '19 - Best Delegate in "Ad Hoc Committee of the Secretary-General" Katarina Christianson '21 - Best Delegate in "CDC on Antibiotic Resistance" George Pavlakis '21 - Verbal Commendation in "1991 Somaliland" Best Delegate Awards are equivalent to first place and Verbal Commendations to fourth place. The following cadets were also integral to the team's success: Jake Stoffel '19, Justin Jang '20, Nick Cunningham '20, John Lorenz '20, Jason Filios '22, Joel Macklin '19 and Dana Cody '20.
