Library runs "Amazing USMA Library Race"Library staff members conducted an instruction session for plebes as part of the RS 100 Student Success Course given by the Center for Enhanced Performance. This year, the library premiered a new instructional format for the class: The Amazing USMA Library Race. Teams of cadets competed for prizes by following directions for five different "legs" of a race around the physical and virtual – website & e-resources – of the library, learning about the services and resources available to them for their upcoming assignments. The race included several legs in Jefferson Hall during which the cadets completed "clues" which required them to use the library search engine Scout to find books and scholarly journal articles and visit library services desks to meet staff members who could help them with research and scholarship. One leg required that teams stop at the Mounger Writing Center to get information about using the services offered there. The race concluded in the Special Collections and Archives Reading Room in Bartlett Hall North, where staff members displayed and discussed unique historic resources from our collection. The winning teams won prizes of library swag.
