Cadets Born & Baumgartner Win Best Paper Awards at URTC

LTC Lowrance & Cadets Win 2nd and 3rd Best Paper AwardsCadets Anna DeVries, Benjamin Baumgartner, and William Born presented their academic research papers at the 2018 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) MIT Undergraduate Research Technology Conference (URTC) in Cambridge, MA. The cadets were mentored by LTC Christopher Lowrance who served as their research advisor on independent studies conducted last spring. The MIT URTC brings together undergraduates around the world to present and discuss solutions to advance technology. As an IEEE official conference, accepted papers are published by IEEE in the Xplore Digital Library. The cadets enjoyed a rich program with keynote speeches and technical flash talks featuring renowned speakers, a student design competition, and networking events. Second Best Paper Award: "Application of Convolutional Neural Network Image Classification for a Path-Following Robot" by CDT William Born and LTC Christopher Lowrance. Third Best Paper Award: "Augmenting Computer Vision with IMU from Mobile Phone for Robust Robot Following of Human Leader" by CDT Benjamin Baumgartner and LTC Christopher Lowrance.
