Firstie Jay Yang of the Army West Point men's swimming and diving team was named the AWPAA Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.
Yang's success in the pool this past weekend helped the Black Knights win the TYR Fall Classic in Miami against a competitive field. He secured a trio of top-three finishes at the meet, including a win in the 400 IM by clocking a time of 3:58.92, which was over three seconds better than the second-place finisher. The Las Vegas, Nev., native later captured another event victory once he tied for first in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.58.
He added a third-place finish in the 200 back, after he touched the wall at 1:52.20. Yang was one of five swimmers at the meet to grab two first-place finishes and the lone competitor to also finish inside the top three in an additional event.
The Black Knights return to action tomorrow to open the dual season against UMass in Amherst, Mass., at 5 p.m.
