After a one-hour-and-32-minute lightning delay, the Army West Point women's soccer team outlasted Lafayette for a 1-0 victory at Malek Stadium at Clinton Field Wednesday evening. Yearling Erynn Johns came up with the game-deciding play in the 21st minute when she stole the ball off the foot of a Lafayette defender and dribbled around the Leopard player. The Austin, Texas, native then fired a shot from 18-yards out that crept past the outstretched hand of the goalkeeper and under the crossbar to give the Black Knights a 1-0 edge.
After controlling play for most of the first half, the home side saw Lafayette assert itself and possessed the ball through the first 20 minutes of the final period. That run came to an end with 35:02 remaining, however, when a lightning strike started a 1:32 delay.
