Firstie midfielder Lauryn Westman's goal in the 87th minute propelled the Army West Point women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Iona on Tuesday afternoon. For the second year in-a-row, the Black Knights defeated the Gaels 1-0 with Westman providing the only score in the final 10 minutes of regulation. Army improved to 2-0-1 on the year, its best start since the 1997 season. The Gaels were handed their first loss of the season and are now 1-1-0.
After Iona controlled play for much of the first half, the Cadets went on the offensive and recorded six of their eight shots in the final 45 minutes. Army led the Gaels in shots (6-3), shots on goal (3-0) and corner kicks (3-1) in the second half.
