West Point Hosts Harvard Business School

The Department of Social Sciences hosted 40 members from the Harvard Business School (HBS) Club of NY and 50 staff and faculty for the first Economic Leader Forum. The purpose of the forum was to highlight the key economic principles that pertain to any leader striving to make optimal decisions for an organization. This year's forum focused on the principal-agent problem, and used a case study written by MAJ Isaac Wisniewski. The case study focused on a decision that Isaac faced during a mission as an Apache helicopter pilot in Afghanistan. During the forum, cadets, faculty and HBS club-members dissected this case-study in round-table discussions and more broadly as a group. The forum allowed all participants to understand the linkages between economics and leadership, appreciate the ethical nuances required in tough decision-making and form bonds with leaders from various industries. The forum also aligned with the Superintendent's emphasis on character development and NYC outreach.
