Yearling goalie Maddie Burns of the Army West Point women's lacrosse team was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week after her strong showing in the crease in Friday's season finale at Bucknell. This is the second time Burns has been recognized by the league, having also earned rookie of the week honors in 2017. The Ridgefield, Conn., native made 10 saves on 25 shots to propel the Black Knights to a thrilling 10-9 victory over the Bison. She stretched her streak of double-digit saves to five as Army recorded its first-ever 10-win season. Burns capped her second collegiate season by setting single-season program records in wins (10), saves (126), save percentage (.457) and goals-against average (10.65).
