Cadets Unveil Capstone iPhone AppEight cadets from the "Pointe du Hoc Augmented Reality Staff Ride" capstone unveiled their iPhone app at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana. Their goal was to create an educational app for Mil-Art classes that would display a 3D terrain model of Pointe du Hoc on top of a 2D map of the battlefield. Furthermore, the terrain model contains primary source documents, photographs, and detailed information about the battle based on extensive research at the National Archives last summer. This app enables students to visualize the battle and terrain in the context of a classroom discussion or virtual staff ride.

This interdisciplinary utilizes cutting-edge Apple ARKit augmented reality technology and a detailed 3D terrain model generated from photogrammetry of the battlefield. Throughout the day-long exhibit, cadets introduced members of the public to their app and gave them the opportunity to explore the app and learn about the battle. The team will continue to refine the app in preparation for Projects Day and will publish it through the Apple App Store so it is available to the public.
