The Army West Point baseball team ended a short three-game slump with a 3-1 victory over Columbia here Tuesday night. The Black Knights scored one run in the opening frame before adding on in the fifth to create a 2-0 gap between the teams. The Lions cut the lead in half in the top of the eighth but the Cadets responded with one final run in the bottom half to ultimately put the game away. Army jumped on rookie pitcher Timmy Post early, registering one run on three hits in the first inning. The Cadets' first run came after Jon Rosoff singled to center field to score Jacob Hurtubise from third. During that frame, Hurtubise stole his 31st base of the year, which ties him with Miguel Gastellum for the program record. Trey Martin extended the Black Knights' advantage with a leadoff solo home run to left field in the fifth inning. That blast was the cow's fifth career long ball and Army's third of the season.
