Cadet Jake Marchillo '18 and Captain W. Gabe Powell of the Geospatial Information Science Program recently produced and submitted a virtual poster presentation to the American Geophysical Union's (AGU) Online Poster Showcase, an online forum of the AGU to facilitate the student presentation of research. CDT Marchillo presented his capstone research, titled, "Generation of 3D Models to Augment Learning and Geophysical Conceptualization." He used over 10,000 photos captured by a consumer grade drone to create a digital 3D terrain model of Pointe du Hoc, France. A video of his presentation can be accessed via YouTube at: https://youtu.be/xdoY-VSCKXk. It was filmed in the newly commissioned Geospatial Visualization Laboratory adjacent to the Geographic Sciences Learning Laboratory in Washington Hall. The video showcases the two latest editions to the vislab, ARES (Augmented Reality Sandtable) and GeoVIEW 3D (Geospatial Virtually Immersive Evaluation Workstation).
