More than 130 analytic professionals from around the globe converged on MacDill Air Force base to discuss, draft, and ultimately present best practices in providing analytic support to contingency /named operations. COL Lindquist and CPT Turner chaired one of the working groups designed to develop best practices for eliciting public perceptions in support of these operations. While there, CPT Turner presented work conducted by a team of USMA faculty (MAJ Hood and CPT Kuiper) in support of the Army's response to Hurricane Maria, which hit the island of Puerto Rico in September 2017. While there, CPT Turner had the opportunity to meet their on-the-ground collaborator in Puerto Rico, LTC Risius to understand how the analysis was used and develop ways to improve methodology for future operations. The efforts of COL Lindquist's and CPT Turner's working group will be codified in a report on session proceedings as well as a special edition of the MOR Journal specifically focused on assessments. MORS Leadership is also working with Joint Staff J-8 and Army Staff G-8 to formalize these finding in doctrine. Also of note was the presence of several other "Mathletes" working on advancing the professionalism of assessments.
