Cadets studying in Amman, Jordan had the opportunity to visit two new cities during a free weekend. Cadets took a trip to the shores of Aqaba in the South of Jordan. In Aqaba, the cadets found that fewer locals spoke English, so they relied on their Arabic more than they have had to in Amman. Cadets also took a cultural excursion with their program, AMIDEAST to the ancient city of Jerash, the oldest city in Jordan. The AMIDEAST-provided guide explained the rich history of the old Roman city that has changed hands through several empires throughout history. The cadets discussed the different cultures that have lived in the city of Jerash and how these changes have affected the current political landscape in Jordan.
