Cadets Jacob Thompson, Greg Zogby, Brian Savidge, Hanna White, and Kalen Khan competed in the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute-sponsored Engineering Innovation for Society design competition. This competition required randomly-assigned teams of undergraduate engineering students to design and prototype a solution for a client problem described by the Center for Disability Services for Albany, NY. A unique design challenge was randomly assigned to each team. Cadet Greg Zogby's team won second place for their input isolating chair design while Cadet Kalen Khan's team won third place for their inflatable wheelchair-bed system concept. Participants were selected to compete via an application process, coming from multiple northeast colleges and universities to include MIT, UPenn, Yale among others. All cadet competitors completed the new Introduction to Mechanical Engineering course in the fall semester and reported being well prepared for the design challenge as a result.
