Cadets Attend Systems Thinking Seminar

The seminar served as an introduction to critical thinking for cadets enrolled in their first Department of Systems Engineering course with Professors Derek and Laura Cabrera of Cornell University. The methods communicated in this seminar are unlike any other critical thinking methods taught at USMA. These skills directly tie to what graduates are expected to do; provide potential candidate solutions. The seminar exposed the cadets to a leading meta-cognition expert, Dr. Derek Cabrera discussed Systems Thinking and facilitated a breakout session. The prompt for the breakout session was truly ambiguous: What are the impacts of the refugee crisis to the U.S. Army European Command’s area of responsibility, and what can the U.S. Army do? In addition, the visiting Professors connected current industry practices into their discussions that are asymmetric to most techniques.
