Mechanical Engineering cadets from the Class of 2020 presented their results and demonstrated working prototypes of their design projects. Cadets tackled either a Soldier resupply mission, a problem facing underdeveloped countries, or a problem facing Soldiers and then designed and built a solution. The course emphasized the engineering design process, team collaboration, visualizing and analyzing products using computer software, and technical communications. Designs included early warning devices to alert Soldiers of approaching enemy, methods to purify water in remote areas, ways to notify a Soldier of the rounds remaining in an M4 magazine, and monitoring devices to notify Soldiers when to hydrate based on heat category. This was the first offering of ME201 as part of the new ME2020 curriculum and represents a cornerstone design experience on the opposite end of the timeline from the capstone experience.
