Cadets and faculty participated in the History Department’s annual staff ride to Fort Ticonderoga and the Saratoga National Battlefield. Forty cadets, many of them prospective history majors, toured Fort Ticonderoga and Saratoga to learn about the decisive 1777 Saratoga Campaign during which the Continental Army and militia defeated a British expedition in northern New York. After flying to Fort Ticonderoga on NJ Army National Guard UH-60s, the cadets and accompanying faculty explored the fort and discussed military aspects of the campaign, including battlefield leadership, logistics, and the effects of terrain on operations. The following day, the group drove to the Saratoga Battlefield to analyze the September 19 and October 7, 1777 battles.
