Tae Kwon Do at the ECTC Tournament at MIT

The Army Taekwondo Team put on an incredible performance this weekend at the first ECTC tournament of the sea-son at MIT. The team medaled in nearly every division. In the men’s black belt division, cadets Matthew Galea, Jordan Nettles, and Zi-wei Peng of the first-string team placed second while cadets David Kim, Hevin Na, and Andrew Buelow followed in third. Cadet Galea’s performance was especially notable, defeating his opponent by mercy rule in the finals match with a 22-2 point gap, the 2 points lost through penalties. In the Women’s division, cadets Taylor Reim, Sophia Andel and Katherine Lauffer took the gold, dethroning the long-standing Cornell team. In the women’s beginner division, cadets Delilah Wood, Madeline Ryu, and Claire Brownfield won third place. In the men’s beginner division, Deil Cho, June Sun Yoo, and Madison Curry of the second-string team won third while Andy Vu, Travis Phelan, and Richard Sung took first. Cadet Deil Cho also placed first in the Men’s beginner forms division. The team has their eyes set on the gold this year.
