Triathlon Competes in Puerto Lopez CAMTRIThe Army West Point Triathlon Team sent two cadets to Puerto Lopez, Ecuador to compete in the Puerto Lopez CAMTRI Triathlon American Championships. CDTs Jacob Slife ’18 and Teresa Groton ’18 are licensed professional triathletes and the CAMTRI race is part of the International Triathlon Union’s elite triathlon series for professionals in the America’s. Competitors at CAMTRI gain points in the ITU rankings based upon their finish which allow them to race in specific draft-legal series events and makes them competitive for earning spots on their country’s Olympic teams. There were 67 professional men and 36 professional women in the field. The athletes represented nations from across North and South America with only 3 men and 2 women (including the cadets) representing the United States. The cadets put up outstanding performances against elite full-time professionals. CDT Slife placed 9th in the men's professional Under-23 Race. CDT Groton placed 6th in the women's professional Under-23 race.
