Offense Lifts Women's Soccer over American in Season Finale

CDT Samantha Sullenger '19The Army West Point women's soccer team posted a season-high three goals in its win over American during the season finale Saturday afternoon. The Black Knights closed out their season with a 4-11-2 mark overall and were 2-6-1 in Patriot League action, while the Eagles finished 2-15-0 on the year and 1-8-0 in league play. Army was aggressive in the opening 10 minutes of the match, spending much of that time in the attacking third and earning four corner kicks and two shots. The Eagles went on the offensive in the 14th minute as Alexandra Taylor dribbled to the middle of the field and fired a shot from the top of the box. Luckily for the Black Knights, Mia Padon came in to make the sliding block on the play. Three minutes later, firstie co-captain Clare Shea gave Army a 1-0 lead when a free kick from Samantha Sullenger was sent into the box. Shea flicked a backwards header to the far-right corner past a diving goalkeeper.
