The league announced on Wednesday that cow Madison Hovren of the Army West Point women's basketball team was selected as the Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year. Hovren, who was a six-time league player of the week selection a season ago, leads a Black Knights' squad that shares the top spot in the Patriot League Preseason Poll with Bucknell. Each team received seven first-place votes. The Black Knights return a strong core around Hovren to tie defending champion Bucknell atop the preseason poll with 140 points. American finished closely behind in third place with 134 points and five first-place votes. Last season's league runner-up Navy tallied 119 points and the final first-place vote, while Boston University checked in at fifth, with 91 points.
