Ambassador Laskaris Visits with Cadets

Ambassador (AMB) Alexander Laskaris visited MAJ Bergman's Modern Africa class and Mr. Melkon's Sub-Saharan African Geography class. AMB Laskaris has held several diplomatic positions across Africa, including service as the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Guinea from 2012-15. Since January 2016, he has worked as the Deputy to the Commander for Civil-Military Engagement, United States Africa Command. AMB Laskaris's discussion with cadets centered around longstanding tensions between agricultural and nomadic interests in Africa, as well as the utility and limitations of American soft and hard power in the region. He also offered personalized feedback and suggestions for each cadet’s respective research paper topic.
