German Forum at the Stueben Parade15 West Point Cadets and 8 German Exchange students took part in the German-American Steuben Parade along 5th Avenue in New York City. Founded in 1957 by German-Americans, the Parade was named after Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, a Prussian-born General instrumental in the standardization and execution of military training in the Continental Army. This event educated the German Forum Cadets about the greater German-American cultural community, while simultaneously representing West Point to the residents of New York City. Cadets and German section leadership met and furthered relationships with members of the Steuben Parade planning board and the German Bundeswehr. After the Parade, cadets visited the Neue Galerie Museum for German and Austrian Art to see works by such artists as Gustav Klimt, Otto Dix, and Egon Schiele.
