Three cadets from the Cadet Amateur Radio Club W2KGY provided communications support to the Toughman Triathlon (Half-Ironman) at Harriman State Park. Cadets Christina Harris, Samuel Miller, Trenton Leslie, and club OIC CPT(P) Sherburne started the day at 4am, paired up with experienced amateur radio operators from the local area and established a radio communications network that allowed the event to pass information on competitor status and race support logistics. The cadets also learned a key amateur radio technology called Automatic Position Reporting System (APRS) that allowed race officials to see the location of their trail vehicle on a map during the race in real-time.
