The Department of Mathematical Sciences shared recent advances from Network Science Center research, with Major General K.K. Chinn, Commanding General for U.S. Army South. Discussion included advances in: frameworks for undermining or strengthening social networks, network insights into team dynamics, characterizing ambiguous environments with multi-layer networks, and quantifying error in dark networks. Future work discussed included: identification of influential personnel and organizations in multi-layer networks; using networks to identify organizational capability mismatches in operating environments; and analyzing asymmetric advantages and risks. U.S. Army South is responsible for Theater Security Cooperation in the Southern hemisphere in order to strengthen regional security and counter transnational threats in defense of the homeland.
