CLD STEM Cadets Motivate Residents of Montgomery County

The Center for Leadership and Diversity in STEM traveled to Kensington, MD to conduct a “STEMinar” for the Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County to Pursue Higher Education. In all, 32 low income residents of the county attended the workshop to design and program “portable unmanned ground vehicles.” The students first received a presentation on the benefits of pursuing STEM education, and how USMA, the Nation’s first school of engineering, teaches those skills to cadets. CDT’s Monroe, Riley, Campbell and Graham spent the remainder of the morning assisting the students in building their “unmanned ground vehicles.” The afternoon witnessed the students attempting a scenario where they employed their unmanned ground vehicles” to deliver supplies to victims of a natural disaster. Small prizes being awarded to the most exceptional students.
