Army West Point Orienteering Team VictoryThe Army West Point Orienteering Team traveled to Pound Ridge, New York, to compete in the United States Orienteering Championships on September 17th and 18th. This event consisted of two classic races on Saturday and Sunday. Competitors flew from around the world to compete on the challenging terrain of Ward Pound Ridge Reservation and test their technical navigation skills. Leading up to the event, the team studied maps of the area and adjusted practices to fit the level of intensity that would be required from the terrain and the increased level of competition. The team’s hard work paid off with outstanding performances across the board. CDTs Arelena Shala ’20, Riley Eck ’20, and Jessica Johnson ’18 all took 1st place in their respective categories. Several of the newest members of the team performed well enough to graduate from Orange and move up to Green, a much more physically and mentally challenging race.
