Army West Point Climbing Team took 9 cadets to the Shawagunks Mountain Range in New Paltz, NY, to participate in a day of out-door climbing. Cadets on the trip included several new team members whom had never been outdoor climbing before. Cadets scrambled up the side ascent to reach the top of the cliff. Anchor systems were demonstrated and set by Coach Klingerman, Coach Strickler, and Dr. Evans. CDT Scott Joiner ’19 led a rappelling class on top of the cliff. CDT John Snurkowski ’19 and CDT Jacqueline Head ’17 completed several lead climbs, resulting in CDT Snurkowski’s first lead climb. Despite some showers, weather held out for the better. The group obtained new gear from Rock and Snow in New Paltz following climbing.
