Ten cadets from the USMA Speech and Parliamentary Debate Forum travelled to Baytown, TX, to compete against 30 schools in the 2016 IPDA National Championship Debates. The USMA teams had tremendous success, with CDT’s Morgan Aiken ’19 and Dalton Combs ’16 taking the top place in the team division. CDT Combs also received an award for being in the top ten speakers for the team division of the tournament. CDT’s Brett Yelverton and Jacob Engelke (both Class of ’19) broke to out-rounds (a single-elimination playoff to determine the champion, accessed only after achieving an excellent record in preliminary rounds) in the individual Novice Division. CDT Meyer Ungerman ’16 broke to the out-rounds in the individual Varsity Division, making it to the octofinals CDT Nathan Hernadez ’17 also broke to the out-rounds in the individual Varsity Division and made it to the quarterfinals. USMA placed fifth overall at the National Tournament through the points achieved from the victories.
