West Point Women’s Team Handball played against their strongest collegiate competitor, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC, along with another team com-posed of both UNC and West Point alumna who are currently stationed at Fort Bragg. The Black and Gold teams were able to rally after a full day of driving to UNC and dominate on the court. In their first game, the Black team lost a hard fought game to the alumnae team and Gold, who also fought a tough battle with the Alumnae team, lost with the same point spread as the Black team. In their game against the UNC collegiate team, Gold was able to hold their ground, but unfortunately did not come away with a win. After that, Black fought the UNC collegiate team to a 12-12 tie in the last 30 seconds of the game. This set up a closely contested match for the last game of the day between West Point Black and the UNC collegiate team where Black fought hard to win of 15-10. UNC attempted to isolate the high scoring CDT Kiana Duncan, but a strong defense from both CDTs Abigail Toth and Kiana Duncan, coupled with some great wing shots from CDTs Virginia Phillips and Dana Robertson made them unstoppable. Gold left the tournament with some fantastic displays of improvement and are on their way to some wins in the very near future. Black ended the tournament with a 2-1-1 record, but more importantly beat their strongest collegiate competitor which holds great promise for the Collegiate National Championship in April.
