Four cadets from the West Point Pipes and Drums club travelled to Newark, NJ, where they had the opportunity to observe the best pipers in the world compete against one another. The cadets also had the opportunity to speak with Gordon Walker, Stuart Liddell, and Nick Hudson who were all competitors between sets and after the competition. Nick Hudson, in particular, gave the cadets his advice for teaching novice pipers in a University band setting. Aside from the competitors, the cadets were able to interact and build ties with members of bands and the Celtic community from the greater metropolitan area, as well as nearby states and Canada. Some of these bands will be seen again at the West Point Military Tattoo, but all of the connections will help integrate the club into the Hudson Valley piping and Celtic community.
