WEST POINT, NY - Five members of the Army West Point rifle team have qualified for the USA Shooting Junior Olympics and U.S. Development Team tryouts. Rick Arnold, Nathan Brewer, Ethan Cook, Payne Nunn, and Andrew Solomonides each qualified for the first round of air rifle while Brewer qualified for the first round of smallbore. The Cadets are competing as at-large competitors because of being unavailable to compete in their home states sanctioned matches. The cut-off score for men's smallbore is 566 while the cut-off for men's air rifle is 555.
Arnold was a two-time Indiana Junior Olympic State champion (2014 and 2015). He has shot 578-or-better in air rifle on four occasions this season. Brewer has been a mainstay in the Black Knights line-up. The freshman leads the team with a 575.9 smallbore average and is second on the team in aggregate average at 1157.9. His 586 smallbore score at the President's Trophy Match earned him medalist honors at the event and is tied for the highest smallbore score for Army this season.
