WEST POINT, NY - Army West Point women's basketball senior guard Kelsey Minato was selected as Patriot League Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Minato was also named the Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for her performances in two games last week. The Patriot League Player of the Week honor is Minato's second of the season and the 13th of her career. The AAA Athlete of the Week mention is her first of the season and 12th of her career.
A native of Huntington Beach, Calif., Minato posted averages of 21.5 points, 5.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds last week in come-from-behind victories against Yale on Dec. 3 and UAlbany on Dec. 5. Minato netted a game-high 27 points during a 65-61 win at Yale after Army trailed by 11 points early in the third quarter. Minato set the Army women's basketball program's career scoring record with 27 seconds to play in the third period against Yale, passing the previous mark of 1,941 set by Army Hall-of-Famer Katie Macfarlane ’04.
