DCA Update - Extracurricular Clubs

Pistol:

  • On 22 August, the West Point Pistol Team travelled to Fishkill, NY, to compete in a Steel Challenge Pistol Match hosted by the Dutchess County Pistol Association (DCPA)
  • Although they were competing against local individuals, and not other colleges, this was an important early season match to help prepare the team for upcoming intercollegiate matches and the Scholastic Pistol Pro-gram National Intercollegiate Pistol Championships
  • Results are not final as of yet, but it is believed that Firstie CDT Anthony Veith was the overall winner of the match, and several other cadets placed among the top ten finishers

Support Clubs

Theatre Arts Guild:

  • On 22 August, nine cadets from the Theatre Arts Guild travelled to Tuxedo, NY, to visit the Renaissance Faire
  • During the trip, the cadets brainstormed on future TAG events, and locked in volunteers for club leadership/staff positions
  • The cadets’ received a lot of attention at the Faire, and held many conversations about West Point, and the many extracurricular opportunities the Academy provides
  • The “mayor” of the Renaissance Faire offered for the cadets to come back as a “troupe of players”, where they would get to dress up in costume and become characters at the Faire for a day

Hobby Clubs

Bass Fishing:

  • On 22 August, the West Point Bass Fishing Club travelled to Amsterdam, NY, were four, 2-man teams entered in the New York Bass Federation Collegiate Cup qualifier on Mohawk River
  • After a great day on the water, the teams placed 3rd ( CDTs Parker Meytrott and Austin Harry), 4th, 5th and 8th, with all four teams qualifying for the State Collegiate Cup Championships on Lake Champlain in October
  • The two biggest fish of the day were brought to the scales by our CIC—CDT Chase Miller and CDT Tom Matty

16 September - hosted by the Army Cyber Institute - Corey Doctorow, author of Little Brother and Homeland

19 October - 0930 to 1130 at the Book Store - Martin King and Michael Collins, co-authors of The Fighting 30th Division
