Competitive Clubs
Triathlon:
On August 15th and 16th, the Army West Point Triathlon team hosted the 10th Annual Toughkids Kid’s Triathlon, and the 26th Annual West Point Triathlon, at Camp Buckner
- The West Point Triathlon is one of the oldest continually run triathlon events on the East Coast
- Both races were a huge success, and well received by all of the participants
- Over 200 children and 700 adults raced in the two-day event
- There were outstanding finish-es from the youngest 4-6 year olds, to the elite athletes competing for the coveted cadet saber in the adult race
- LTG Caslen, the Superintendent of West Point, raced and spoke to all of the competitors prior to the start of the event
- MAJ Will Koch, from the Department of Physics and Nuclear Engineering, served as this year’s Race Director, and was responsible for all of the planning and coordination for the event
- In addition to the Triathlon Team, support for the event was provided by West Point agencies to include, the Cadet Restaurant, the West Point Fire Dept., Dept. of Emergency Services, Dept. of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security, Transportation Motor Pool, DCA, Dept. of Public Works, and the Arvin Gym Physical Therapists
- Additionally, volunteer support was provided by the Judo Team, Crew Team, Glee Club, WKDT Radio, Cadet Companies D-4 and C-1, Ski Patrol and Team RWB
Support Clubs
Parachute:
From 28 July until 8 August, the West Point Parachute Team and 2nd Aviation con-ducted their annual voluntary summer training (VST)
- Cadets performed 733 jumps out of a fixed wing aircraft, a CH-47 from the PA National Guard, and the UH-72 from 2nd Aviation
- Cadets averaged 33 jumps each during the 11 days of training
- Training included water jumps at Lake Stilwell and night jumps on the Plain
- Firsties are trained and ready to perform this year’s demonstrations
Glee Club:
On 18 May, 2015, 19 members from the West Point Glee Club performed the National Anthem for the Stanley Cup Playoffs at Madison Square Garden
- The anthem was viewed by millions via live television coverage, internet and social media, and by the 19,000 attendees in the arena
- The cadets’ performance and conduct were of the highest caliber, representing the Corps of Cadets in an exceptional manner
- Madison Square Garden Special Events staff were uniquely impressed and opened a conversation about future performances
Extracurricular Clubs
DCA Club Night:
On Tuesday, 18 August, DCA hosted Club Night in Eisenhower Hall. The Extracurricular Clubs had the opportunity to showcase their clubs and forums, and the many achievements they have accomplished. Cadets also had the opportunity of picking from over 140 clubs and forums to join the one that best suits their interests.
Cadet Hostess:
Etiquette Training was in full swing over the summer as New Cadets attended both an etiquette meal and social development class. Sharyn Amoroso conduct-ed a total of 24 classes in all for the Class of 2019. Prior to CBT, Shayrn presented “Character and Etiquette” to the Cadet Cadre of CBT 1. Additionally, members of the new Brigade Chain of Command attended a fine-dining lesson prior to the start of classes. At the Hostess Office, Kathy Keirsey was busy all summer shipping out officer sabers to support military weddings across the country and tending to the increase of hosted events in Cullum Hall. With the start of the academic year, assistance was lent to the Class of 2017’s Affirmation Ceremony, and planning continued for the Class of 2016’s Ring Week-end Events.
Cadet Programs
On 25 July, Cadet Programs held Camp Illumination at Camp Buckner. Cadets got to enjoy live music and entertainment On 9 August, Cadets had the opportunity to show-case their talents in the New Cadet Talent Show, which was held at Lake Frederick.
