Twenty-nine Department of History cadets attended the annual American Revolutionary War tour of Philadelphia. Visits to the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Congress Hall, and Museum of the American Revolution inspired cadets to think about the foundational decisions American leaders made in revolutionary-era Philadelphia. Cadets experienced a January day at the Valley Forge encampment, learning the trials overcome by George Washington’s army. Park Ranger David Lawrence gave cadets a personal tour of the encampment, diving deep into the military strategies and soldiering tasks conducted at the site. Cadets packed themselves into twelve-man continental soldier huts, evaluated the dug-in fortifications, and the effects of camp life for Continental soldiers or the aide-de-camps at Washington’s Headquarters.
