WEST POINT, N.Y. - Kristen McPeek laced a walk-off two-run single with one out in the bottom of the seventh to give Army West Point softball a come-from-behind 4-3 non-conference first game victory over Sacred Heart Wednesday at the Army Softball Complex. The Pioneers took a 6-2 decision in the nightcap to earn the split as the Black Knights closed out their regular season 23-25-1.
Trailing throughout the first game, the Black Knights fell behind 3-0 in the third inning and chipped away at the lead with a run in the fifth inning on Gladys Esparza-Gallegos' RBI double scoring Kasey McCravey, who ripped a single to left field with two outs and stole second.
In the bottom of the seventh, pinch hitter Xiomara Perez started Army West Point's rally with a leadoff single to right field, then gave way to pinch runner Karena Gonzalez. Hailey Megge followed with a single after beating out an infield hit, then McCravey loaded the bases when she reached on a throwing error by the shortstop, in the process chasing starter Kacie Wentworth (3-12).
