WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Senior Alex Newsome was named the Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week after recording eight points in the Patriot League Tournament in helping the Army West Point men's lacrosse team to the Patriot League Championship game. Newsome scored two of the seven goals in the fourth quarter at Loyola and added the assist on John Glesener's gamewinner to erase a five-goal Greyhound lead in the final frame. Watch the Video.
He turned in his best performance of the season in the next game, which came in the Patriot League Semifinals at Navy. The Black Knights were looking get back at the Mids for a loss late in the regular season and Newsome responded with a season-high four points on a goal and three assists. He scored one of the eight first-half goals by Army West Point and finished the day with two fourth quarter helpers in the 11-7 win.
