Army Rifle Sets Program Record in Tri-MatchFor the second consecutive match the No. 6 Army West Point Rifle team set a program record. The Black Knights posted a score of 4686 to take second place in a virtual tri-match with Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) foes No. 2 West Virginia (4709) and No. 8 Nebraska (4681). Each team shot in its home range.

“I'm really proud of the team for two back-to-back record setting performances,” said head coach Web Wright. “We've got a lot of depth this year and that's where we're seeing the difference.”

The Cadets had four shooters over the 580 threshold in smallbore in Clayton Hanson, Kyle Kutz, Lauren McMahan and Nicholas Cheshire. In air rifle, Army had three members reach the 590-mark in Hanson, Kaitlyn Kutz and McMahan.

“Sling went very well,” said Kyle Kutz, who shot 397/400 in sling. “The positions were solid, trigger pull was good and I just let the shots flow. Standing was a little bit below my average, but overall it was a great match. I definitely have a lot to reflect on and work on in future training sessions.”

“We got one percent better today, so it was a good day” Cheshire said.

The match will count towards Army's GARC record, but will not factor in as an NCAA event. Read more.
