This will be the 83rd all-time meeting between the two schools. Navy owns the 44-37-1 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to 1957. Since the start of the 2012 season, Army owns a record of 6-4 over the Mids. During that span neither team has won more than two consecutive games. Of the 82 games that have been played in the rivalry, 37 have been decided by a single possession. The Mids have the slight 33-30-1 advantage in star series games. In the last meeting between the two squads, Army blanked the Mids 13-0 to claim its 36th CSFL title. It marked the Black Knights' first shutout over Navy since 1984.

This will be the third star series matchup of the 2020-21 season. The series is currently split 1-1. On Oct. 17 the Army women's cross country team edged Navy 27-29. On the men's side, the Mids took the meet 23-34.
