Nearly 100 members of the Army Crew family and guests gathered at Battle Monument to reflect on the lives of Lt. Col. Jaimie Leonard (USMA Class of 1997), Capt. Matthew Carpenter (USMA Class of 2003) and retired Capt. Sam Brown (USMA Class of 2006).
Leonard was killed in action June 8, 2013, while serving with the 2nd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, in Sharana, Afghanistan. Carpenter, who served and deployed as an Armor officer in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2009 and died Dec. 1, 2010.
