The Westchester Triathlon in Rye, NY

The West Point Triathlon traveled to Rye, NY, to compete in the Westchester Triathlon. Held at Playland Park, the Olympic distance event consisted of a one-mile swim, a 25 mile bike, and a 6.2 mile run. The Westchester Tri was the last race in the fall Collegiate Conference series and Army once again claimed the Northeast Collegiate Triathlon Conference title. Cadet Thatcher Shepard finished second place over-all in the men's race with a total time of 2:07:39. Cadets Blake Rhymes, Wolfgang Drake, Hunter Cochran, and Thom-as Batt all placed in the top ten as well. For the women, Cadet Payton Boylston won the Collegiate Female Division with a time of 2:28:28 while Hannah White finished third in the Division as well. One of the team OICs also competed in the event. CPT Scott Lynch completed the race finishing 39th out of 605 in his age group. The Army West Point Triathlon team sent 4 cadets to the Ironman 70.3 Atlantic City race last month. The race consisted of a 1.2-mile open water swim, a 56-mile bike and a 13.1-mile run. The team had great success with all four cadets finishing in the top 10 in their divisions and three of the four on the podium. This was the first 70.3 race for three of the four cadets. CDT Gabe Fuhrman '21 was 2nd in the men's 18-24 division while CDT Katie Harris '20 and CDT Sarah Martin '21 were 2nd and 5th in the women's 18-24 division. Both Fuhrman and Harris earned qualification spots to the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in the fall of 2019.
